What is an EICR or as most of us will refer to it as an Electrical Installation Condition Report? Here is the JJB Electrical guide to understanding it all should you need an EICR in Harlow
What is an EICR?
Now we can’t promise this will be riveting but we will try to keep the spark in you alight by helping you to understand everything these reports can provide us with and shed some light on an important matter!
An EICR is like check-up for you at the doctors or a blood test but for your Harlow homes wiring system. The report will generate an array of issues or potential issues that could arise and any recommendations we would make for your home. It will outline the state of the electrics in your home and if any actions are required.
So, no matter whether you are a Harlow homeowner, business owner or landlord etc, we all have the responsibility of keeping our electrics safe not just so we can comply with regulated standards but to keep those safe living there.
Our homes and businesses are certainly put through their paces over the years turning lights on and off, plugging in an array of technology to charge, fuse boards tripping due to overloaded circuits or malfunctions you name it, so you’d think more of us would keep up with the checks and maintenance rather than out of sight out of mind behind the walls! Too many accidental fires can be caused by electrical issues, many of which we can avoid.
Here's how…
EICR Inspection Harlow
An EICR in Harlow starts with a visual assessment, followed by a series of tests where the power will need to be turned off. Wiring, fuseboards, sockets and switches will all be tested to check for any defect or potential defect. Any issues found will be reported by severity from those that require immediate action to be taken, to those where improvements are recommended.
There are 4 codes the report can show that you need to be made aware of ranging from Danger Present to Further Investigation Required. More information for the same can be found on the EICR section of the JJB Electrical website. There are various times a report like this may be required such as moving home, a landlord looking to rent out a property or on your own home for peace of mind. EICR’s are legally required at least every five years for rentals and commercials and recommended every ten years for homeowners.
EICR, EIC & PAT
So is an EICR the same as an EIC (Electrical Installation Certificate) and does it cover PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) I hear you ask… The short answer is NO.
An EIC is provided to confirm that any new electrical installation such as a rewire or new fuse box complies with regulations and neither include PAT testing. However here at JJB Electrical Harlow we would be happy to carry out the same alongside any other works we can help you with. EICR’s are a report on the general health of your current electrics only.
