"Jamie turned up always on time and did a very tidy install that was certainly not a standard fit due to my electric meter being in the middle of the house. Installed everything in one day, as budgeted, tidy and very professionally executed. I definitely would recommend this company."

Why a Proper Home Charger Install Matters

Charging an EV from a standard socket or extension lead isn't just slow — it's a fire risk on a circuit never designed for hours of sustained load. As qualified electricians (not just charger fitters), this is exactly the kind of thing we check for.

Charging from a standard socket

Charging overnight from a normal 13A wall socket or an extension lead — a circuit never designed for it.

Multi-way adaptors

Using multi-way adaptors or daisy-chained extensions to reach your car.

Warm cable or plug

The charging cable or plug feels warm to the touch during long charges.

Shared fuse

Your charging circuit shares a fuse with other heavy appliances.

Old consumer unit

An older consumer unit without dedicated RCD / RCBO protection.

No smart-tariff access

No access to cheaper EV overnight tariffs because your charger isn't 'smart'.

Why Invest in a Proper Home Charger

Convenience

Charge overnight on your own driveway and skip the public charger queue.

£

Savings

Unlock cheaper EV off-peak electricity tariffs a standard socket can't use.

🏠

Property Value

A proper install is a genuine selling point for EV-driving buyers and tenants.

How We Work On Your Driveway

An EV charger install should be neat, safe and built to last — not a cable taped across your brickwork. Here's how we approach every job.

Neat, accessible cable runs

Cable routing from your consumer unit to the charger point is done methodically — chased into brick or render, or run through loft and underfloor voids — then clipped, supported and tidied as we go.

Awkward positions are no problem

Meter miles from where you want to charge? We route around it. On one recent job the customer's electric meter sat in the middle of the property — not a standard fit — and the install was still completed neatly, in a single day.

Weatherproof, outdoor-rated as standard

Every charger is fitted to current outdoor weatherproofing standards and positioned for genuinely practical daily use, whatever the weather.

EV-ready consumer unit included

Every install includes a dedicated EV consumer unit / RCBO protection specific to the charger circuit — not bolted onto an existing overloaded circuit.

Real EV Charger Installs We've Completed

We're not a call-centre installer — it's Jamie, Dan and the team on every job. A few recent examples across Hertfordshire and Essex.

What Our EV Charger Customers Say

A recent 5-star review from a genuine EV charger customer.

★★★★★

"After purchasing our first EV, we needed a home charger fitted to take advantage of cheaper home tariff rates. I found JJB online and was encouraged by their many 5-star reviews. Two colleagues turned up exactly on time and were informative, knowledgeable, good-humoured and professional. I received a quote within 24 hours which was quickly accepted. Jamie turned up always on time and did a very tidy install that was certainly not a standard fit due to my electric meter being in the middle of the house — installed everything in one day, as budgeted, and very professionally executed. I definitely would recommend this company."

Common EV Charger Questions Answered

The questions we get asked most. Got one that's not here? Just give us a call.

How much does a home EV charger cost?
From £899 + VAT for a standard BG Sync EV untethered charger with a dedicated EV consumer unit, installed within 10 metres of your incoming mains. Longer runs or extra work are quoted after a free survey.
How long does installation take?
Most home installs are completed within a single day.
Do I need permission to install a home EV charger?
Most homeowners don't need planning permission. We handle Building Control and DNO notification where required as part of NAPIT certification.
What's the difference between tethered and untethered chargers?
Tethered chargers have a built-in cable ready to plug straight in. Untethered chargers have a universal socket and use your car's own cable — useful if you drive more than one EV, or prefer a tidier look when not charging.
My electric meter isn't near where I want to charge — is that a problem?
Not usually. We can route cable through the loft, under floors, or externally to reach an awkward meter position — we've completed installs even where the meter sits in the middle of the property, finished neatly in a single day.
Can I get a government grant for my install?
Homeowner EV charger grants ended in 2025. If you're a landlord or living in a rented property or flat, you may still qualify for up to £500 per socket — ask us to check your eligibility.
Is the installation guaranteed?
Yes — fully tested, NAPIT certified, and covered by the NAPIT Insurance-Backed Guarantee. We're also a Which? Trusted Trader.
Which charger brand should I choose?
We fit BG Sync EV (our standard offer unit), Ohme (smart tariff scheduling) and Zappi (smart / solar-compatible charging). Happy to recommend the right one for your car and how you charge.
