Over the last week we have had the same question asked a few times and this question is ‘what are the different types of fuse boards I can have?’. Our answer to this is ‘We only install RCBO fuse boards’.
The reason for this is, if you have a fault in your property and a circuit trip’s out, with a RCBO fuse board, you only lose the affected circuit. But with a split load fuse board, if you have an electrical fault on the up stairs lights for example and this is on the same side of the board as your kitchen ring and boiler, then these circuits will be affected also.
Another reason is that with modern day life a lot of the electrical equipment in your home leaks a small amount of electrical current back to earth, this would not normally cause an issue but if you have a number of these over a few circuits which are protected by the same RCD then nuisance tripping can occur. But with an RCBO fuse board you minimise the chance of this happening.
Also, any fuse board installed inline with the electrical regulations should have Surge protection and be made of a non-combustible material.
So, what’s surge protection I hear you ask?
Well surge protection should be installed to take the brunt of any electrical spikes or surges which could enter your home. Electrical surges and spikes can cause damage or destroy the electrical goods in your home or even worse hurt you and your family.
